HS Science/Engineering Educator

Watershed is a progressive 6-12 independent school in Boulder, Colorado that is place-based and future-focused.  

Watershed seeks a passionate, energetic full-time high school science/engineering educator to begin August 10, 2020.  In our program, you'll team-teach with a humanities educator to develop transdisciplinary courses that focus on overarching topics/challenges/questions about our world. Teachers have significant collaborative planning time, and work to engage students regularly in learning from experiences and experts outside the classroom.

Among other duties, teaching at Watershed includes co-instructing a fall orientation backpacking trip, teaching a May Term course (alternating between domestic travel with middle school and international travel with high school), and participating in extensive professional development, including the school's annual Traverse conference.

The ideal candidate will have

  • A deep commitment to progressive educational ideas and practices

  • 3+ years experience teaching science (preferably physics or chemistry) or engineering at the high school level

  • Demonstrated commitment to a project-based and/or expeditionary approach

  • Experience with interdisciplinary curriculum and/or team-teaching

  • Consistent record of working to innovate and improve their teaching through both experimentation and professional learning

  • Experience leading outdoor education programs

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively

  • Experience leading extended international or domestic trips

  • Broad global and multicultural competency

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a wide range of adolescents

  • Have, or be able to obtain by August 1, 2020, either WFA or WFR certification
