Director of Finance and Operations

ABOUT THE LOGAN SCHOOL

The Logan School (Logan) is an ACIS-accredited institution that promotes the curiosities of gifted children with an approach that is as unique and individual as the children who make up the Logan community. Logan serves 250 students in grades K-8 on a 13-acre campus. Here, students develop their own individualized units of study, allowing personal passions and interests to drive the development of academic skills and deep critical thinking. Faculty, in partnership with families, guide students through their own learning journeys and infuse Logan’s values and commitment to building an inclusive community throughout the campus. 

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Director of Finance & Operations is a key senior leader who is, directly and indirectly, responsible for overseeing the administrative functions at The Logan School (Logan), including finance, facilities, technology, HR, procurement, and safety. Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Finance & Operations will be charged with defining a finance and operations vision, creating and implementing annual and multi-year operational plans with aligned budgets and resources, and ensuring that Logan creates a joyful and safe learning environment.

The ideal Director of Finance & Operations candidate is a highly collaborative, strategic, fiscally savvy, customer-service oriented, and emotionally intelligent senior leader. They will bring a track record of developing and improving systems, processes, and infrastructures, ideally those that impact students, families, and communities. Logan seeks a Director of Finance & Operations who is energized by solving complex problems, working alongside their peers and one direct report towards shared goals, building relationships with external vendors, and increasing efficiency.

Key responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following areas of focus:

Financial and Operations Oversight (40%)

  • Oversee core financial functions such as budgeting, accounting, business planning, and reporting to protect confidential information, and ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with federal and state mandates. Manage the annual tax & audit processes.

  • Partner with the Enrollment Management Director to streamline systems and processes relating to employment contracts, tuition, and tuition assistance that impacts Logan’s overall budget.

  • Directly manage and collaborate with the Associate Director of Business Operations on tuition billing and collection, accounts payable, receivables, contracting, payroll, human resources, investment accounts, accounting and reporting, regulatory reporting and compliance, and other business administrative activities. 

  • Provide financial reports and support as necessary to the Head of School, the finance committee, and the board, including attending monthly finance committee and board meetings. 

  • Partner and manage relationships with vendors and staff on strategy implementation.

  • Serve as an exceptional manager and coach who develops strengths in others and models effective, informed, and transparent decision-making with a high degree of social and emotional intelligence.

Planning and Implementation (20%)

  • Participate in the development of the school strategy, providing creative revenue stream recommendations, financial analysis, projections, and other data to inform the process.

  • Gather and synthesize data to design the annual budget to meet the strategic direction of Logan, and then operationalize the Board-approved budget

  • Partner with the operational leaders to set revenue and expense goals, administer the annual budget and forecasting process, and communicate Logan’s mission and impact to key stakeholders. 

  • Remain current with business management trends and cultivate professional standards and development by participating in educational opportunities such as the Association of Colorado Independent Schools (ACIS) and the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). 

Facilities, Compliance, and Safety (10-15%)

  • Partner with the Head of School and legal and risk management advisors to ensure compliance systems, staffing, tools, policies, and procedures are in place for annual cycles such that The Logan School fully complies with federal, state, and local legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Facilities, who oversees the maintenance of the buildings, grounds, and equipment, overseeing repairs and systems maintenance, maintaining and updating technology infrastructure, and developing and overseeing a plan for allocating funds for Physical Plant Renewal and Special Maintenance (PPRSM).

  • Develop and maintain the school’s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and oversee all health and safety initiatives, including the annual review of the Crisis Management Plan, oversight of safety drills and procedures, and review and oversight of health initiatives and contracts. 

  • Complete annual liability insurance and risk management analysis with the school’s insurance agent and board of trustees.

Human Resources (10% or more based on the time of year)

  • Manage, in close partnership with the Associate Director of Business Operations, the employee payroll and benefits, and annual analysis and review of payroll operations and policies.

  • Support the Head of School and Dean in personnel matters such as the development and management of hiring policies and procedures, and any mandated trainings as needed. Implements updates to policies based on required federal and state human resource legislation.

  • Oversee onboarding and offboarding of staff, ensuring compliance with internal policies and all regulatory requirements with strong management of tasks to execution. 

Information Technology and Data Systems (10%)

  • Manage strategies for planning, implementation, and support of information technology. Ensure success, planning, and implementation of data, infrastructure, analytics, reporting, risk management, and data governance required for Logan to achieve its educational goals. 

  • Build and maintain data infrastructure to support the campus’ instructional goals. 

Procurement and Inventory (5%)

  • Manage procurement and purchasing at the school site, including supplies, furniture, and equipment.

  • Maintain inventory and manage supply and device tracking. Work with teachers and administrative staff to implement procurement processes that synchronize with financial systems.

The ideal candidate will have the following professional experience and skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, accounting or finance preferred, CPA a plus.

  • Significant experience in finance and operations in an educational institution or non-profit organization.

  • Demonstrated success in leading sophisticated financial forecasting, modeling, planning, and management, including business processes, internal controls, and fiscal improvements.

  • Project planning, execution, and prioritization experience required, with demonstrated ability to see large projects through to completion while managing more immediate tasks.

  • Sophisticated systems thinking with the ability to seize opportunities across functions and systems for greater efficiency and as aligned to an operational budget.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The Logan School offers a salary range between $100,000 - $125,000. Salary consideration is given for seniority, merit, quality, education, and experience.
