ECE-G3 School Counselor 2020-21

August 10, 2020 - August 9, 2021

The ISDenver counselor develops, manages and delivers a comprehensive school counseling program. This team member also collaborates with the school leadership and student support team to ensure the implementation of a successful program.

  • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interest, and abilities of students

  • Assist all students, individually or in groups, with developing  personal/social skills, goals, and plans

  • Utilize an online system to enter, track, and view progress for individual

  • Teach and help to promote language, behavioral, social, and daily living skills in a fun, play setting to increase motivation and positive performance for every individual

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs

  • Implement an effective referral and follow-up process

  • Accurately and appropriately use assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling.

  • Monitor student behavior and attendance, assisting with appropriate interventions

  • Counsel with colleagues, students and/or parents on a regular basis

  • Liaise with administration, teachers, specialists, and parents.

  • Work closely with the Lower / Upper School Student Support

  • Work closely Lower School and Early childhood principals in behavior intervention cases. Creating a system to enter, track and view the progress of the individual.

  • Teach and help to promote language, behavioral, social, and daily living skills in a fun, play setting to increase motivation and positive performance for every individual

  • Liaise with community support services, including educational psychologists who support ISDenver students.

  • Organize and lead Student Support meetings to discuss specific student and their needs in Lower/ Upper School.

  • Lead and collaborate with members of the curriculum review team to align the social-emotional curriculum in the school. There may be some teaching required at times.

  • Lead the educational community in the design and implementation of Social and Emotional Learning Lessons.

  • Adhere to laws, policies, procedures and ethical standards of the counseling profession.

  • Serves in the Admissions committee and as a member of the student support team. (SST)

  • Assist with student transition (arrival/departure, scheduling)

  • Conduct staff development/in-service sessions as requested.

  • Host, arrange and facilitate parent information evenings.

  • Demonstrate a commitment and willingness to work with students during community service activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a school counselor. ( Experience with both elementary and pre-school preferred)

  • Master’s degree in school counseling

  • Experience in behavior management interventions

  • Demonstrate the ability to relate well to adults and children

  • Team player, ability to work in a collaborative, responsible and professional manner

  • Counsel, teach, engage, and lead with a growth mindset

  • A passion for counseling, teaching, and nurturing the whole child

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

  • Goal orientated seeks to improve skills through constructive feedback

  • Familiarity with Educational systems outside the USA

  • BCBA certification

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.

  • The employee may occasionally be required to bend, stoop or kneel.
