Director of Human Resources

The Director of Human Resources oversees, organizes, directs and performs varied administrative responsibilities with confidentiality and sensitivity. The Director of Human Resources  oversees a wide variety of personnel processes (e.g. recruitment, selection, hiring, etc.) for the purpose of filling openings with qualified personnel and ensuring compliance with district, state and/or federal requirements.  Duties include: Plan, coordinate, direct, administer, and conduct the recruitment, employment, retention, staffing, evaluation, and performance management for employees. Plan, implement, review, and evaluate human resources policies, programs, practices, and procedures. Oversee employee evaluation and performance management process and advise the Head of School and admin on performance management and evaluation. Design, implement, and supervise various programs including recruitment and retention, staffing, employee relations, compensation, and diversity initiatives related to employees. This position works closely with the Director of Finance & Operations (DFO) to administer payroll processing and provides appropriate input and analysis for budgeting and decision making processes.  This position also works with the Senior Director of Academics & Student Life to oversee the office specialists and maintain the daily operations of each campus office to meet the protocols and requirements to meet our positive child care license status. You will play a crucial leadership role in fostering a positive and supportive work environment for our dedicated team. This position reports directly to the Head of School.


RESPONSIBILITIES 


  • Recruitment, Staffing and Retention: Develop and maintain job descriptions, post ads, coordinating interviews, and selecting candidates who align with the school's philosophy and goals. Develop, and implement best practices for recruitment, retention, and support of a diverse and culturally responsive workforce. Ensure proper licensure for new and continuing educators and compliance with state and federal statutes related to educators. Ensure employees are compliant with all necessary requirements. Identify training needs, develop training programs, and facilitate professional development opportunities for staff members, ensuring continuous growth and improvement.


  • Employee Contract Administration:  Collaborate with the Head of School on the employee contract process to ensure equitable and deliberate administration.

  • Onboarding and Orientation: Develop and implement an effective onboarding program to ensure new hires and new Board members are integrated smoothly into the school community, familiarized with policies and procedures, and provided with necessary resources. Complete pre-employment background and reference checks; Ensure employees follow policies and procedures according to the Employee Handbook

  • Keep the staff directory and organizational charts up to date

  • Maintain records, including teacher certifications and professional development hours

  • Oversee hiring and exit interviews and procedures, including new employee orientation and the processing of initial and terminal paperwork

  • Coordinate professional development and training for all employees in order to meet  Childcare Licensing requirements, safety, and sexual harassment  

  • Employee Relations: Promote positive employee relations by fostering a culture of respect, fairness, and open communication. Address and resolve employee concerns, conflicts, and disciplinary issues in accordance with school policies and legal requirements. Implement initiatives to enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and well-being, such as employee surveys, recognition programs, and work-life balance initiatives. 

  • Performance Management: Develop and oversee performance management systems, including job descriptions, performance evaluations, goal setting, and professional development plans to enhance employee engagement and optimize performance. Serve as a resource to the annual employee contract negotiations process.

  • Business Office:  Administers and manages the Payroll system and processing.  Participates in reporting and analysis for budget and planning purposes. Processes accounts receivable and accounts payable functions to support the Business Office.

  • Manage PTO for all employees; Monitor absenteeism and employee turnover, prepare reports and recommendations as needed.

  • Supervision:  Manages and directs the work of Office Specialists in collaboration with each campus Director of Academics and Student Life.

  • Compensation and Benefits: Collaborate with the HOS and DFO to develop and administer competitive compensation and benefits packages that attract and retain high-quality staff members. Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to ensure the school remains competitive in the job market.

  • Onboarding substitutes including background checks and all MSE Policy requirements; Scheduling and finding  substitutes either internally or externally

  • Policy Development and Compliance: Develop, revise, and enforce human resources policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local laws. Monitor and promote adherence to policies throughout the school. Train staff in adherence practices. 

  • Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date personnel records, including employee files, contracts, certifications, licenses, and accreditation regulations. Generate reports and provide relevant HR metrics to inform decision-making processes.






Physical Requirements

  • Able to continuously walk, stand, climb stairs, and sit and lift up to 40 pounds

  • Frequent bending or stooping, and reaching above shoulder level

  • Attends and reports professional development workshops inside or outside of school. 

  • Creates yearly professional and personal goals to be discussed with the Head of School and shared with other staff as needed.


Administrative Responsibilities

Assist in the efficient and effective management of the School.

  • Demonstrates professionalism in every aspect of the job and adheres to AMS guidelines and professional standards. 

  • Practices the use of confidentiality as outlined in the MSE Employee Handbook.

  • Follows protocols for managing information (i.e. attendance) and completing requests (i.e. purchase orders, supplies, personal days), etc., as detailed in the MSE Employee Handbook.


Requirements 

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in human resources management, preferably in an educational or non-profit setting.

  • Strong knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and best practices.

  • Experience in recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, and training and development.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships at all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated leadership, team management abilities and excellent communication abilities; Ability to work collaboratively with faculty to enhance curriculum and community.

  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making and multi-tasking skills and prioritization.

  • Strong organization development skills enhancing culture and building collaborative and effective teams and employee engagement.

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
