Dawson, a K-12 independent school of 520 students located east of Boulder on a beautiful 107-acre campus, seeks an exceptional part-time (.5 FTE) K-5 Library Media Specialist starting August 1, 2022. Previous school and library experience and a graduate degree is preferred. The K-5 Library Media Specialist creates dynamic learning experiences for our students in the Lower School Library. This person is responsible for managing the day to day operation of the library space, including circulation, print and digital collection development, budget management, special events, readers advisory, and creating monthly thematic displays. S/he is also responsible for supporting individual and classroom academic learning, fostering media literacy, digital citizenship, resource acquisition, research skills, study skills, and educational technology.

Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or Educational Technology or equivalent.

  • Experience with education technology integration, learning management systems, and Google G Suite.

  • Previous work in a library and/or school environment.

  • Work with the Lower School Director to provide vision and direction for the library, creating an inviting space for students and faculty to engage with and explore a wide variety of resources and materials.

  • Teach one 45-minute Information Literacy lesson per week in all Lower School grades (8 in total).  Collaborate with the Information Literacy Coordinator to create a scaffolded entry to information literacy at the middle school level.

  • Develop, maintain, and promote the print collection.

  • Collaborate with the Information Literacy Coordinator to develop and promote the digital collection.

  • Develop and conduct programs, presentations, and workshops and create participatory experiences for the community.

  • Stay current on trends and research in information literacy and school librarianship.

  • Provide training for faculty and students to use the library resources effectively.

  • Collaborate with teachers on planning and implementing projects and activities that integrate information literacy with classroom learning/projects.

  • Encourage a culture of reading among students and faculty by remaining current in K-5 literature and creating excitement around reading.

The salary range for this position is $20,000 to $35,000, commensurate with experience and relevant skills. Benefits include medical, dental, 401(k) and generous time-off.
