Job Description

Working at Escuela de Guadalupe includes many different responsibilities to make a small, non-tuition driven school run effectively.  As a close-knit community, we all pitch in to make this a great place to work and learn.  Therefore, this description is not intended to be all- inclusive. Specific areas of responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

 

 

Responsibilities-ART and ELECTIVE

  • Fully implement the components of dual-language instruction across all Art classes as well as a middle school elective (Teaching will be in Either language)
  • Define enduring concepts, knowledge, and measurable outcomes for each each unit that are shared in a syllabus with families and students at the beginning of the unit and evaluated at the end of the unit
  • Use instructional strategies that identify student learning objectives for each lesson and actively incorporate learning strategy modeling and instruction in every lesson
  • Carefully plan and deliver Art and electives lessons in learning environments that are clearly and firmly defined by language of instruction and that incorporate diverse perspectives, history and literature from around the world.
  • Actively support the evaluation plan across for Art, including formative and summative evaluation to assure maximum student progress.
  • Collaborate and plan with teammate, teaching assistant, fellow teachers, principal, assistant principal
  • Create a classroom environment of intellectual rigor and accountability .
  • Maximize instructional time during the day
  • Create a positive classroom environment built on success and high expectations for student achievement, risk-taking, goal-setting, actions and responsibility.
  • Carefully plan units and daily instruction
  • Model a respect for cultural and linguistic diversity
  • Maintain close communication with families
  • Support the cultural, spiritual and academic goals of the school by modeling compassion, love and care for the children at all times.
  • Have the patience and positive attitude to be sure that every student has an academically rich experience and fully develops their cognitive and language abilities.
  • Contribute to an environment of enthusiasm and dedication.

Responsibilities-TUTOR

  • Work with a student or group of students during class or outside class hours to improve understanding, work towards mastery, and give extra attention to learning needs in English or Spanish literacy or math. (Teaching will be in English)
  • Speak in the language of instruction and find alternative ways to support students’ understanding without translating or using the other language (visual vocabulary support, definitions, explanations in language of instruction)
  • Model questioning and language that supports complex thought development; ask students questions that help them think about the answers, rather than giving them the answers. Keep teachers informed on which students are struggling or have common misunderstandings. 
  • Support literacy and language development or math 
    • Plan with teachers to understand the specific needs of the students they will be tutoring.
    • While planning and collaboration with the teacher is essential, the tutor will be responsible for creating and utilizing materials for tutoring both within the classroom and for small-group or individual settings
    • Lead small group learning to support literacy and language development, supported by intentional planning with the classroom teacher. The teacher and tutor are expected to plan and discuss student progress frequently with assessment data and evidence.
    • Record anecdotal data about your work with students for effective, consistent communication with the classroom teacher
    • Stay updated on current educational practices by investigating and implementing research-based and effective strategies
    • They will be in charge of communicating constantly with the teacher and families through in person meetings. 
    • Attend and participate in weekly PLC meetings and monthly Staff Development days.
  • Fulfill the mission and goals of the school
    • Build positive relationships with adults and children in school
    • Be positive about children in communication with students, families, teachers and staff.
    • Value the integrity of both Spanish and English as tools for thinking,  reasoning, problem-solving, expression and intellect
    • Support community events that are critical to maintaining the school culture, financial model and student enrollment at our school

Requirements

 

 

Skills and Qualifications

Required Qualifications-Overall:

  • 3 years+ teaching experience
  • Experience leading,  working with, or teaching a group of children
  • Excellent language skills in the specific component in which he/she will be teaching Either language
  • Authentic support of culturally rich and linguistically diverse learning communities.
  • Open to working in a Catholic Environment and respecting the Catholic faith
  • Willingness to learn new curriculums, technology systems, and software and the motivation to implement this learning to make a difference in the classroom.
  • Working knowledge of bilingual and dual-language programs.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment, develop effective interpersonal relationships, communicate patiently and effectively with coworkers and families
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, adapt to changing priorities, manage time and meet deadlines. 
  • Successful completion of CBI and FBI background check
  • Maintain the required hours of the work day, as well as the class schedule 

Required Qualifications-ART and ELECTIVE

  • Teaching experience and a degree in Art Education or similar field

Required Qualifications-TUTOR

  • Teaching and/or performing tutoring and interventions with students. 
  • Minimum 3 years of successful tutoring or intervention experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching license
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent language skills are critical and a willingness to provide verbal interaction with students both in and out of class.  Bilingual reading, writing and speaking skills are preferred.
  • Genuine love and enthusiasm for learning, reading and writing
  • Effective in managing and supervising students
  • Organized, flexible and reliable
