Job Description: 

In alignment with the mission of Montessori Academy of Colorado, the Director of Education is a forward-thinking expert in learning styles and in the development of targeted, engaging and academically challenging programming. The Director employs the unique Montessori pedagogy to create individualized learning opportunities for all children and their teachers. This is an administrative position that works closely with the Program Directors and in a variety of Nido, toddler, primary and elementary school settings. The Director works with a high level of independence and professional discretion under the general supervision of the Head of School. In addition to ensuring programmatic quality and excellence school-wide, the Director of Education serves as the program director for elementary.

Essential Tasks 

  • Maintains a focus on school-wide learning, instruction, and student-centered coaching to meet the individual needs of each child 

  • Provides oversight of Montessori pedagogy implementation to ensure a consistent parent, student, and teacher experience from Nido-elementary

  • Collaborates in the development of regular and systematic structures for teacher reporting 

  • Develops and facilitates unique professional learning and growth opportunities for all teachers in Montessori curriculum, instruction, and assessment, as well as other best practice topics

  • Creates and leads opportunities for additional individualized student intervention and enrichment in the areas of academics and/or social-emotional learning

  • Collaborates with teachers in designing programming that provides opportunities for acceleration, complexity of thinking, in-depth learning, and discovery, allowing for a variety of opportunities for children to demonstrate their knowledge

  • Develops positive and productive relationships with teachers, staff, and families to foster a community of support for each child 

  • Works with Advancement to ensure full enrollment in each community and right-fit students, as well as student transitions throughout the school year

  • Supports day-to-day oversight of the elementary program, including observation of instruction, student support, facilitation of team meetings, supervision of going-outs, trips and other events, as deemed appropriate 

  • Manages any necessary administrative-level parent communication for the elementary program, including meeting facilitation, monthly newsletters, and attendance at conferences, as needed 

  • Coordinates with the Primary Program Director to develop high quality Integrated Kindergarten programming, with a focus on retention and transition to elementary 

  • Explores community resources and coordinates services with outside providers to strengthen the school/home/community connection, including the development of relationships with feeder Middle Schools 

  • Participates in the recruitment and selection of credentialed and non-credentialed staff

  • Supervises and evaluate assigned staff in accordance with the MAC teacher evaluation framework

  • Communicates regularly with parents at a strategic school level to illustrate the unparalleled opportunities for student differentiation at MAC

  • Coordinates curriculum documentation and mapping in alignment with ACIS/AMS accreditation

  • Provides strategic input and partnering with the Head of School and administrative team for relevant strategic decisions

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Master’s degree in education or related field preferred

  • AMS/AMI credential preferred 

  • Experience working with populations with diverse student needs

  • Teaching experience working with preschool and elementary-aged children

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to continuously walk, stand, climb stairs, and sit

  • Frequent bending or stooping, and reaching above shoulder level

  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds
