Middle Science and Computer Science (K-12)

Position Overview: CSS is seeking an innovative and creative educator with a broad skill set in science and computer science. A successful candidate will be required to work across divisions, developing the fundamentals of computing (K-12) while teaching two sections of middle school science. In doing so, the strongest candidate will be able to assess the current program needs in order to advance 21st-century skills and knowledge. This position reports directly to the Associate Head of School and will have a variety of responsibilities related to delivering the school program. These include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following areas: 
  • Middle Science:

    • Teach two sections of middle school science

  • Computer Science (K-12):

    • Teach one section of AP Computer Science (Principles)

    • Teach one section of Introduction to Computer Science as needed

    • Provide computer science instruction in grades 3-5

    • Support the implementation of computer science in middle school (6-8)

  • Additional Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an active and influential member of the CSS Tech Team

  • As schedule permits, involvement in other aspects of school life, including clubs, study halls, lunch supervision 

  • Serve as a student advisor

  • Participate and/or lead experiential education seminars 

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School

  • Support the school and its leadership

  • Comfort with project-based learning

  • Familiarity with nationwide ISTE standards in computer science and technology

  • Knowledge of computer science curriculum instruction trends of 21st-century learners

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree (Preferred) in fields of science, math, or computer science

  • First-hand experience with Lego Mindstorm, Python, and other programming languages

  • Experience in other innovative and computational arenas (STEAM, Maker Space, Design Thinking, Programming, Virtual Reality)

  • Experience implementing and leading a robotics program a plus

  • Possess an innate ability to engage and inspire students through innovation and creativity

  • Team player willing to work collaboratively with department, colleagues, and families

  • Innovative mindset with a focus on student-centered learning and technology

  • Attentive to details/conditions as they pertain to student whereabouts and safety

  • Enjoy building relationships with students and their families 

  • Eager to participate in other aspects of school life
