Associate Classroom Teacher

September 12, 2022 - July 31, 2023

About the Position

The Logan School currently is hiring an Associate Teacher to start immediately. The Associate works with a Lead Teacher in a mixed-age core classroom of 5th/6th graders.

Status: Associate Teacher is a salaried, exempt 1.0 FTE position.

Direct Supervisor: Lead teacher 

Overall Responsibilities May Include

Teaching (dependent on age level) 

  • Collaborating with Lead teacher to execute individual and small group lesson plans

  • Facilitating student learning with regards to social and emotional lessons

  • Assessing student's social, emotional and academic needs and collaborate with Lead teacher to leverage student strengths and support areas of need

  • Collaborating with students to create individual units of study

  • Creating and leading math lessons, assign and grade homework and create and grade tests without direct supervision of the lead teacher. May be responsible for their own math groups.

  • Supervising students as they are working on individual work

  • Leading or assisting with reading/book groups

  • Leading or assisting with writing workshops and other language arts workshops and lessons

  • Integrating math, reading, writing, etc. into student lessons

Planning and Assessing

  • Agenda conferences: support students on-on-one with their weekly work schedule

  • Units: prepare, brainstorm, develop, monitor and assess student work throughout the year

  • Conduct research, organize papers, collect resources, shop for materials for individual and class unit work

  • Observe and take notes on student progress, behavior and/or difficulties to report back to Lead teacher so they can use this information to provide feedback to students and parents as well as to help best support the student in their work

  • Brainstorm with Lead teacher on unit ideas and how best to work with individual students

  • Work with Lead teacher on student feedback forms

  • Gather resources for unit work

  • Respond to student journals and reflections

  • Edit and give comments on student writing/papers

Supervising and Supporting

  • Assist Lead teacher with classroom management or in some cases, be in charge of classroom management so lead teacher can focus on other teaching responsibilities

  • Take over class as needed when Lead teacher is unavailable 

  • Support lead teacher and EE teachers with class management on field trips

  • Supervise students at lunch and recess

  • Problem solve with teacher and students to support individualized learning

  • Provide social and emotional support to students. Act as a mentor.

  • Classroom management

Other

  • Attend parent/student/teacher conferences and other parent meetings

  • Attend all required staff meetings and school-wide events

  • Collaborate with Lead teacher on student feedback forms and idea generation for unit support

  • Go on overnight trips as required by the age group

  • Other duties as assigned by Lead teacher or dean

 Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree 

  • Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail

  • Experience in teaching or related field (summer camp, etc.)

  •  Computer literacy and comfort using Google Suites

  •  Ability to pass a background check and drug screening

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Willingness and ability to go on overnight field trips with students

Compensation

Salary is $31,500 to be paid over an 11-month contract from September 2022-July 2023.
