CRMS has worked intentionally to develop a greater sense of inclusion into our learning community. As a school that values the importance of experiential education, it is also our goal to provide access for all youth to our unique, progressive model of education that draws upon the transformative power of the outdoors. With the aspiration of leading in this space, we are excited to announce an inaugural position for a Director of Community, Engagement, and Belonging.

 

This position works directly and indirectly with the students who identify as diverse members of the community including international students, students of color, and student populations that are traditionally underserved, under-represented, or discriminated against.  This position also involves direct engagement with students while teaching in the academic, active, and residential life programs. 


The Director of Community, Engagement and Belonging reports to the Head of School and is a member of the school’s executive team. 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Shape a new and aspirational position guided by our strategic work developed through the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice task force and Future Path Committee.

  • Model, mentor, and train administrators and school leaders (students and faculty) to support a vision for progressive learning in an inclusive community.

  • Work in partnership with the education team and the director of the (HS)2 program to create and implement a mission-aligned vision for community experiences related to diversity, equity, and engagement, and to develop a communication strategy around that vision.

  • Collaborate with the school administrators to ensure that the school’s academic, active, and residential curricula and instruction delivers culturally responsive pedagogy and communication.

  • Maintain a presence in the broader independent school community to ensure continued professional development and wellness.


Additional duties as a member of the teaching faculty and administrative team include:

  • Teach an academic class or support program

  • Instruct active program curriculum including trips, mountain sports, arts or service work

  • Support boarding students as a dorm parent in the evening and weekend residential program 

  • Mentor a group of students as an advisor

  • Work in the five-week HS2 summer program

  • Take on other duties as needed

  • Execute all duties in a timely and professional manner


Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree with strong oral and written communication skills

  • A strong understanding of and advocate for teenagers

  • Experience leading diversity, equity, and inclusion work preferred

  • Experience and/or interest in outdoor programming and supporting access for non-experienced students 

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Capacity to facilitate conversations and mediate conflict

  • Ability to work collegially with multiple constituencies

  • Ability to embrace ambiguity and opportunities for this inaugural position



Compensation package: Salary and benefits are commensurate with other Colorado boarding schools. Housing included. Salary range: $40,000-$50,000 plus Benefits
