Mandarin Teacher - Vail Mountain School

Purpose:  The Mandarin teacher is a collaborative, experienced, and nurturing teacher who is excited to join a dedicated team working in an independent school K-12 environment.   • Able to communicate in a timely and professional manner with students, parents, colleagues, and volunteers

  • Ready to attend related meetings and assist with afternoon/evening programs; some of which may occur outside of the school day

  • Actively promoting the mission of the school

  • Deeply knowledgeable in the subject area; displaying dedication, passion, inspiration, the ability to individualize learning, and the capacity to help all students succeed. 

  • Fluent in Mandarin

  • Committed to pursuing professional development and are life-long learners. 

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university required; advanced degree preferred

  • Proficiency in designing effective lessons, teaching diverse learning styles and managing students of all ages

  • You are passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion and their integration into our school. You consider yourself culturally competent and so do your co-workers. 

What You Will Do:

  • Teach World Language curriculum in Mandarin, develop lesson plans and map curriculum.

  • Provide general supervision of students at all times in the building (including lunch and recess)

  • Work with the world language department to create a cohesive and inclusive learning environment for our students

  • Maintain an orderly classroom environment

  • Generate assignments and activities to promote learning in a creative manner

  • Promote speaking in the target language

  • Fairly assess students both formatively and summatively

  • Maintain a gradebook with weekly grades for Middle and Upper school

  • Write narrative quarterly comments

  • Reach out to students, parents and teachers in a professional and collaborative manner

  • Participate in Board related events, as requested

  • Advocate for and ensure that diversity, inclusion, and social justice permeates the school's programs and drives its culture.

  • Jump into help when your team is in need. This might include covering classes, skiing or snowshoeing with students, hopping onto a field trip that needs to be covered.
