5-8th Grade Learning Specialist, (60% FTE) 

Mackintosh Academy - Boulder (Mack Boulder), a co-educational, independent school serving gifted students in Kindergarten through 8th grade, seeks a dynamic and experienced  5-8th Learning Specialist for the 2025-2026 school year. This position ensures that all students have access to a challenging, inquiry-based curriculum through individualized learning plans, collaborative teaching practices, and targeted academic interventions.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, clear communication, and a passion for supporting meaningful, mission-driven experiences for students. The goal of the  5-8th grade Learning Specialist is to provide necessary supports and interventions to individual and group students, based on developmentally appropriate, research-based practices. This person will also assist the school's faculty in equipping them to meet the needs of various learners. The Learning Specialist will interface with faculty, parents, and independent contractors on behalf of students who require specialized academic instruction (including advanced learners). 

Position includes, but may not be limited to:

  • Participate in the process for identifying, monitoring, and remediating individual student learning needs in conjunction with homeroom teachers, families, outside providers, and/or administrators.

  • Support student observations or assessments, as needed or upon request from homeroom teachers or other concerned parties, to evaluate targeted learning needs and develop support plans. 

  • Work with teachers, families, and outside supports to create, facilitate, and track plans to support identified student needs.

  • Meet with individuals and/or small groups of students (5-8th grade) for academic support and intervention across all areas of learning, including literacy, math, etc. 

  • Support students in developing executive functioning skills.

  • Communicates regularly with parents/guardians, including coordination of services and accommodation plans, and updates on student progress in coordination with the Director of Teaching and Learning.

  • Coordinates with the Director of Teaching and Learning to update cumulative information in student files, including regular assessment of student progress and adjustment of student goals.

  • Works collaboratively with Classroom Teachers, Specialist Teachers, Learning Specialists, Division Directors, and the Counselor to support students.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.

  • Experience in gifted education and/or International Baccalaureate programs is valued.

  • Demonstrated success in teaching and small group intervention strategies. 

  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across grade levels.

Salary & Benefits

  • $54,500-$80,000 for 100% FTE, commensurate with experience. Note: This salary reflects 100% FTE, whereas this position is posted for 60% FTE 

  • Mack offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, vision, dental, life insurance, 401k/401k-Roth retirement, sick leave, and paid time off for employees who work 30+ hours per week.
