Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and collaborative K-5 Science Teacher to design and deliver an engaging, inquiry-based science curriculum. This role involves fostering curiosity and scientific thinking in young learners through hands-on, project-based experiences aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy and framework. The ideal candidate will work closely with homeroom teachers to integrate science instruction with grade-level units of inquiry and inspire a love for exploration and discovery.
Position Description
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Design and implement a science curriculum for K-5 students that is inquiry-driven, hands-on, and developmentally appropriate, teaching 6-8 classes per week.
- Develop and facilitate project-based learning experiences that encourage critical thinking and problem-solving. ? Align science instruction with the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) framework, ensuring an interdisciplinary approach that supports homeroom units of inquiry, as well as with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
- Collaborate closely with K-5 homeroom teachers to design and integrate science lessons that reinforce and extend students’ learning across subjects.
- Create a student-centered classroom environment that encourages exploration, questioning, and experimentation.
- Incorporate STEM practices, sustainability, and environmental education into the curriculum.
- Maintain effective communication with families, colleagues, and administration.
- Manage classroom resources, including materials for experiments, hands-on activities, and technology tools that enhance scientific learning.
- Organize and facilitate science-related events, field experiences, and community partnerships that enrich students’ learning.
- Stay current with best practices in science education, inquiry-based learning, and the IB philosophy, engaging in professional development as needed.
- Participate fully in staff meetings and retreats, as appropriate.
- Support the overall mission of Mackintosh Academy - Boulder.
Credentials / Salary / Benefits
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Masters preferred.
- Experience in gifted education and/or International Baccalaureate programs is a plus.
- Experience teaching elementary science in an inquiry-based, project-based, or IB setting preferred.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with homeroom teachers and school leadership.
- Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and encouraged.
- Salary range: $54,500 - 80,000 for 100% FTE. *Please note that this position will be 40% FTE. (This salary range presents teaching experience ranging from 0-30 years.)
