About the Position

Lead teachers work with an associate teacher and other educators to provide a Logan educational experience. Responsibilities include developing an individualized curriculum for each student and collaborating with the Environmental Education teachers to co-lead one overnight trip (lasting 5-9 days) in the fall and another in the spring.

The ideal candidate will hold a college degree and have experience as a teacher. Candidates should be familiar with the needs of gifted students and possess a strong understanding of child-centered education, as well as the value of hands-on learning activities.

Candidates must have the skills necessary to perform the following tasks at a high level of proficiency:

  • Collaborate with the Associate Head and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to maintain a classroom consistent with Logan’s philosophy. 

  • Plan and oversee individual student unit curricula, including coordinating enrichment opportunities with unit trip teachers and other support staff. 

  • Plan and implement a multidisciplinary class unit and other activities that provide students with the opportunity to work together and integrate subject matter in a deep and meaningful way. 

  • Provide opportunities for exploration, critical thinking, and problem-solving across the curriculum.

  • Consistently monitor students' academic progress and communicate with parents about their growth.

  • Guide students in the areas of emotional and social growth and collaborate with the school psychologist when needed

  • Co-lead day-long and extended (overnight) field trips with the students 

  • Communicate and collaborate with other teachers regarding students’ learning

  • Participate in staff meetings and other community events

  • Collaborate with a full-time associate teacher and support professional development

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School

Experience, Skills & Abilities

  • 4-year college degree and/or advanced degree. 

  • Teaching experience preferred

  • Experience and/or understanding of gifted education

  • Lifelong learner, flexible thinker

  • Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail

  • Computer literacy and comfort using Google Suite

  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Willingness and ability to go on overnight field trips with students

Status

This is a full-time, 10-month in-person position during the school year. Salary is paid over 12 months from August to July. This position receives full benefits.

Supervision

The lead Advanced School (AS) teacher reports directly to the Associate Head of School. 

Hours: The Logan School workday is 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Attendance is required at all-staff meetings, which typically conclude by 5:00 p.m. at least once a week. There will be occasional evening and weekend commitments that require attendance.

Teachers are expected to:

  • Participate thoughtfully and positively in all meetings and school-wide events

  • Consider various perspectives when engaging in internal and external communications

  • Work with the Associate Head and Coordinator of Faculty and Program Development to share and solve problems

  • Attend pre-service and other professional days and school-wide events

  • Attend and complete mandatory training, such as those for child safety, first-aid, etc.

  • Attend all staff meetings and the staff retreat, if applicable

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $55,000 to $85,000, depending on years of experience and skillset, for a 10-month work period. This will be prorated over 12 months for the 24-25 school year based on the start date.
