Job Overview:

Denver Academy of Torah is seeking a dynamic, passionate, and experienced Science teacher to join our Upper School (Grades 6-12). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching upper division coursework, including biology, physics and chemistry;  and will be able to engage students in critical thinking, lab analysis, theory development and effective communication. Responsibilities:

• Instructional Design & Teaching:

• Teach science courses for grades 6 through 12, focusing on a range of topics such as biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, etc. 

• Develop engaging and effective lesson plans that align with the school’s curriculum and academic standards.

• Foster a classroom environment that encourages inquiry, critical thinking, and intellectual curiosity.

• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students with varying abilities.

• Integrate technology and multimedia resources into lessons where appropriate.

• Assessment & Feedback:

• Design and administer assessments (essays, exams, projects) to evaluate students’ progress and provide constructive feedback.

• Regularly track student performance and communicate progress with students and parents.

• Curriculum Development:

• Collaborate with fellow teachers and leadership to develop and refine the science department curriculum.

• Contribute to the integration of interdisciplinary projects and themes.

• Incorporate diverse perspectives in course materials.

• Classroom Management:

• Establish and maintain a respectful, inclusive, and productive classroom environment.

• Address disciplinary concerns in a fair and consistent manner, promoting positive behavior and student responsibility.

• Advisory and Co-curricular Support:

• Serve on committees

• Participate in school functions or events such as back to school night, etc.

• Participate in school support services, such as recess, welcoming students, end of day procedures, etc.

• Participate in school-wide extracurricular activities such as clubs, student government, or other committees.

• Professional Development:

• Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in teaching and learning.

• Attend department meetings, faculty meetings, and school events as required.

• Communication:

• Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and school administration regarding student progress, challenges, and achievements.

• Maintain timely and organized records of student grades, assignments, and assessments.

Qualifications:

• Education: A Bachelor’s degree in a Science discipline, Math, Education, or a related field is required. 

• Experience: Ideally at least 3+ years of experience teaching science in a middle school and/or high school setting

Preferred Qualifications:

• A Master’s degree in a science discipline, math, education or a related field 

• Experience teaching advanced Science courses (AP, Honors, IB) or extracurricular science or STEM programs.

• Knowledge of contemporary educational philosophies and best practices in science instruction.

• Experience working with diverse student populations and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.

• Outstanding organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, professional demeanor, a strong work ethic, and humble confidence;

 

Skills:

• Strong knowledge of science disciplines.

• Experience with differentiated instruction and various teaching methods.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to inspire and engage students, and create an inclusive and respectful classroom culture.

• Strong organizational and time-management skills.

• Familiarity with educational technology and tools (Google Classroom, Learning Management Systems, etc.).

HOURS/COMPENSATION
Salary range $54,000 - $65,000 annual salary. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Full-time with competitive benefits. Potential for a part time position(s) as well.
