Job Description:

St. Mary’s Academy is excited to announce a new Kindergarten teaching position within the Lower School. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to help shape the foundational learning experiences of our youngest students while joining a thriving and supportive school community.

The Kindergarten Teacher is responsible for creating a joyful, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment where children feel safe, curious, and excited to learn each day. Learning in Kindergarten at SMA is intentionally engaging and fun, grounded in play, exploration, creativity, and strong academic foundations.

The ideal candidate is passionate about early childhood education and understands the importance of strong, positive partnerships with parents. Working collaboratively with families, colleagues, and school leadership, the Kindergarten Teacher supports each child’s academic, social-emotional, and spiritual growth while ensuring every student feels known, valued, and inspired. 

The position reports to the lower school principal.



Major Duties and Responsibilities:


Teaching and Learning

  • Design and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction that makes learning active, and meaningful

  • Foster early literacy, numeracy, and inquiry through play-based and hands-on learning experiences

  • Create a classroom culture where curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning are celebrated

  • Integrate the Loretto School Values into daily instruction and classroom routines

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students

Student Life, Culture, and Community

  • Establish a warm, structured, and joyful classroom environment where students feel safe, confident, and supported

  • Support students’ social-emotional development through positive guidance and age-appropriate behavior support

  • Build strong, positive partnerships with parents, maintaining open, consistent, and collaborative communication

  • Partner with families to support student growth, celebrating milestones and addressing concerns with care and professionalism

  • Foster a sense of belonging and community that reflects the Loretto School Values of faith, community, justice, and respect

Professional Collaboration and Growth

  • Collaborate closely with Lower School colleagues, specialists, and administrators

  • Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives

  • Contribute positively to the broader life of the school through events, service opportunities, and community engagement


Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Education and qualifications should include the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • A Master’s degree or teaching certification is strongly preferred

  • 3+ years of teaching experience grounded in knowledge of best practices

  • Willingness to build and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues and parents

  • Commitment to employing a positive, growth mindset 

  • A sense of resonance with the St. Mary’s Academy mission



Salary

The salary range for this full-time, exempt position is $50,000.00 - $68,000.00.
