Job Description:

St. Mary’s Academy is seeking a High School Social Studies teacher. This is a full-time, 10-month, exempt position reporting to the division principal, beginning in August 2026. The position consists of three teaching sections and serving as an advisor to a small group of students. Candidates should have strong academic training and possess a demonstrated ability to teach and develop a robust and innovative curriculum. Additionally, we are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about developing and supervising a range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities for students, with specific interest in Speech and Debate. The ideal candidate will have a range of experience teaching high school students including Advanced Placement (AP) coursework. Explicit graduate training in the field of history or social sciences and experience with the AP Psychology curriculum is preferred.

Through regular conversations with their division principal and colleagues, St. Mary’s Academy teachers learn and understand their job responsibilities. Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teach three 90-minute block classes;
• Lead extracurricular activities, such as Speech and Debate;
• Serve as grade-level advisor;
• Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences that meet students’ varying needs;
• Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities;
• Use relevant technology to support instruction;
• Provide appropriate and timely feedback on work to allow students to grow in their educational abilities;
• Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development, and prepare required reports on students and activities;
• Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing appropriate rules and procedures;
• Participate in co-curricular and extracurricular activities such as social events, sporting events, clubs, overnight trips, community service, and other school community activities;
• Participate in department, school, and parent meetings;
• Communicate regularly with students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs;
• Keep updated with developments in the subject area, teaching resources, and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities;
• Other tasks as assigned;

All teachers are also responsible for a variety of duties and tasks throughout the day; the principal will make these assignments and share them with the faculty.  These tasks and assignments change as the needs of the community are determined. 

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education and qualifications should include the following:

• Bachelor’s degree in history or related area
• Master’s degree preferred
• 3+ years of teaching experience
• An understanding of and appreciation for the developmental needs of young adolescents
• Willingness to build and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues and parents
• Commitment to employing a positive, growth mindset to teaching

Salary/Benefits:

The salary range for this full-time, exempt position is $54,000 to $68,000. St. Mary’s Academy provides excellent benefits, including medical, dental, and life insurance, retirement, paid time off, tuition remission, and opportunities for professional development.
