The Facilities Technician works under the direction of the Director of Facilities and Heads of School and is responsible for maintaining a safe and functional school environment. Their duties include maintaining safety and security protocols, providing maintenance and repairs, and handling administrative tasks related to facilities. This role involves ensuring compliance with regulations, coordinating with contractors, and support staff. The Facilities Technician plays an integral role in supporting the school community's operations and well-being.

Starting Salary: $51,000 - $64,000 (commensurate with experience)

Essential Functions:
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Maintenance, Repair, and Improvements:
- Acts as back up in the event of the absence of the Campus & Security Director
- Preventative and Reactive Maintenance Tracking: Work alongside the Director of Facilities and within the ticketing system for accurate preventative maintenance schedules, aiming for high performance with minimal deferred maintenance. Record and complete reactive maintenance requests promptly, ensuring communication and timely resolution of issues.
- Interior and Exterior Maintenance: Take ownership of all interior and exterior maintenance and repair activities, including service providers or volunteer work in trades like flooring, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and more. Provide maintenance of roofs, gutters, parking lots, exterior lighting, landscaping, irrigation, pest control, playground equipment, and snow removal.
- Contractor Oversight and Compliance: Provide supervision of certain outside contractors to ensure compliance with contractual agreements, building and fire codes, and budgetary restrictions.
- Energy and Waste Efficiency: Report on the efficiency of the facility's energy and waste systems, aiming for maximum efficiency.
- Organization, Inventory, and Cleanliness: Keep maintenance areas, sheds, and closets organized and clean. Order, purchase, and track inventory of supplies or materials as needed while maintaining reserve stock for the facility.
Safety and Security:
- Through the work order ticketing system, addressing and resolving employee, parent or students concerns, ensuring maintenance is compliant with certifications, licenses and is compliant with local, state, and federal regulations. Minimizing risks at the school to ensure the safety of personnel and students in their use of the facilities. Assist in scheduling and follow up on inspections, conducting regular safety reviews, and maintaining processes and protocols.
- Work closely with and assist as needed with the school’s safety and security personnel. This includes basic knowledge of Standard Response Protocols, emergency drills (Fire, Tornado, etc.) and Emergency Plan implementation.
- Assist in the Health and Safety schedule prescribed in the Portfolio, including walk-throughs, audits, and planning Safety Month. (Sept.)
- Learn and maintain a basic understanding of CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration, UP, Epi, Defibrillator, etc.
- Work closely with the Director of Facilities to provide checks and maintenance of the school playgrounds and all of the equipment and apparatus the students might be in contact with and log the review in a maintenance log.
- Assist with school transportation vehicles as needed. Act as a facilities ambassador related to the facility, health, or safety of the students, families, staff, administration, and general guests.
- Manage related projects as assigned.
Administrative:
- Reporting and Documentation: Through the ticketing system, provide updates and/or closure on outstanding items in a timely manner, provide status updates for ongoing projects. As needed, update and maintain project documentation for future reference and compliance purposes.
Education, Experience, and Certifications:
- Required: 3-5 years of facilities, construction or trade experience – general understanding of multiple disciplines is preferred (Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, Handyman).
- Past experience with building(s) greater than 50,000 sq.
- Experience as a project manager.
Qualifications:
- Possess excellent oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient use of technology and personal computer, including Google Suite, ticketing system, email management, and internet search engines.
- Stamina for multiple hours of manual labor and strength to lift 100 lbs. when needed.
