Position: Maternity Leave for the Middle School (6-8) Visual Arts Teacher 

Reports to:  Kendall Early, Head of Middle School

Contract Terms:  Full time, approximately 3 months, to begin August 2026


This position will teach 6th through 8th grade visual and fine arts classes as well as provide our students with joyful, interactive learning experiences that give them choice and voice in their learning. We are looking for candidates who love art and have a strong desire to teach middle school children.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Teaching 6th-8th Grade visual and fine arts classes 

    • Inspiring and educating children to develop to their full potential – socially, emotionally, intellectually, physically, and creatively 

    • Creating a safe, supportive, mutually respectful classroom community that values the distinct contributions and abilities of each child 

    • Implementing integrated, meaningful, developmentally-appropriate curricula in which students can explore and experiment through first-hand experiences 

    • Creating opportunities for students to know themselves, to make good choices, and to take responsibility for their own learning and actions 

  • Leading advisory classes of a combined group of 6, 7, and 8th-grade students

  • Engage in student-life activities, including school assemblies, dances, clubs, electives, student grade-level meetings, and traveling on middle school overnight trips, such as the homeroom camping trip

  • Depending on background, involvement with the middle school athletics program, and/or 3-8 extracurricular activities 

  • Assisting with duties as needed, such as carpool, recess, lunch, and other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications and Background Experience: 

  • A bachelor’s degree 

  • A degree in the arts or experience teaching visual arts 

  • An appreciation for and understanding of Stanley British Primary’s philosophy of education, including the 7 goals for learners of self-awareness, collaboration, respect, curiosity, perseverance, academic resourcefulness, and joyful, lifelong learning 

  • A deep enjoyment in working with, honoring, and valuing each individual child

  • Highly organized and attentive to detail, keeping track of a wide variety of dates, deadlines, and logistics 

  • A willingness to pitch in and help out wherever needed 

  • A self-starter who is attentive to the needs of individual faculty and of the overall middle school team.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills. 

  • Familiarity and comfort with a range of technology, including the Google platform and the Microsoft software suite 

  • A desire to work with middle school-aged children 

  • A positive presence and enthusiasm for life-long learning 

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and reach, stoop, kneel, and bend.


Salary and Benefits:

Long-Term Sub Rate: $185 per day
