About This Role

Dawson School is seeking a skilled and proactive Marketing and Communications Manager to develop and execute the plans, creative, and campaigns that bring the Executive Director's strategic vision to life. This manager is the school's steward of brand identity and the go-to resource for brand and identity needs across the department. The role drives long-term enrollment growth by translating the Executive Director's direction into quarterly marketing plans, high-impact collateral, PR, and demand-generation campaigns, and then owning execution, whether in-house or through vendors. This role works in close partnership with the Content Specialist, who owns day-to-day content production and our owned digital channels. 

Role Summary

Brand steward and execution lead for the school’s identity, mission narrative, and demand-generation engine, developing plans and creative that align with the Executive Director’s vision.

This Role Owns:

  • Ad campaign strategy, execution, and budget management

  • End-to-end email automation strategy and execution for prospective families

  • Brand stewardship. Is the primary resource for identity, visual standards, and messaging consistency across all touchpoints

  • Public relations, media relations, and general stakeholder communications

  • Editorial strategy and production of flagship publications and presentations (Annual Magazine, State of the School), which help set the strategic narrative that the day-to-day editorial calendar assets

  • Alignment of marketing efforts with enrollment and revenue goals

  • Collateral support for admissions and community engagement teams

Key Responsibilities

  • Ad Campaign Management: Lead the planning, execution, and optimization of all paid advertising campaigns to drive enrollment demand.

  • Email Automation (Prospects): Own the strategy, design, and performance analysis of all automated email nurturing campaigns for prospective families.

  • Strategic Publications: Lead the editorial strategy and production of the Annual Magazine and the annual State of the School presentation, presenting concepts and final drafts to the Executive Director for approval. These flagship publications set the strategic narrative above the day-to-day editorial calendar.

  • Brand & Public Relations: Serve as the primary contact for media relations, including writing and distributing all press releases (2–6/year). Own emergency communications for weather, transportation, or other school incidents using templated copy. 

  • High-Level Strategy: Develop and recommend quarterly themes, messaging goals, and channel strategies in partnership with the Content Specialist for Executive Director review and approval; once aligned, execute with autonomy and manage all deliverables through to completion.

  • Integrated Strategy: Coordinate with cross-functional leadership to ensure all marketing activities align with overall institutional growth and mission-driven targets. Manage relationships with external vendors and paid media partners to deliver quality work on time and on budget.

Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • 7+ years of experience in marketing management, communications, or public relations

  • Proven expertise in marketing automation and CRM platforms

  • Exceptional skills in narrative-building,  brand messaging, and writing

  • Integrated campaign management experience, including managing digital ad budgets

  • Background in high-stakes stakeholder communication

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and workflows with exceptional attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Canva or other design tools, with an eye for good design

  • Experience in an educational or nonprofit setting

Salary range: $80,000 - $90,000
