Elementary Judaic Studies Teacher

Title: Elementary Judaic Studies Teacher 

Denver Jewish Day School announces the opening for an innovative, creative, knowledgeable full-time Lower Division elementary grades (K-1) Judaic Studies teaching position.

Term: 26-27 School Year

Reports To: Lower Division Principal, Elana Shapiro

Job Description: Judaic Studies teachers in the Lower Division (K-5) work in a team setting, typically in two grades (K/1, 2/3, or 4/5) with two secular teachers per grade and a Hebrew teacher. Teachers work with administrative support to design and implement curriculum aimed at fostering proficiency in the areas of reading, writing, listening comprehension, and speaking modern Hebrew and participate in ongoing professional development as offered by the school. Teachers also participate in various aspects of school life including holiday celebrations, class trips, and assemblies. 

Qualifications: Qualified candidates will have a minimum of three years of teaching experience. Master’s degree preferred but not required. The ideal candidate will possess outstanding teaching skills, have experience in Jewish Day Schools, be familiar with best practices in teaching Judaic Studies, be comfortable employing project based learning and other student-centered approaches in the classroom, and possess excellent communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues. We are looking for a candidate who has experience with a diverse population of learners, differentiated instruction, instructional technology, and future-ready teaching practices. The candidate will be a positive school community member and will enjoy working collaboratively with a team and building positive relationships amongst all constituencies.

Special Knowledge/Skills: 

  • Organizational, communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Knowledge of Hebrew/Judaic Studies and experience building curriculum based on standards

  • Knowledge of future-ready/21st century skills and success in focusing on them in the classroom

  • Familiarity with best practices for student engagement, classroom management, and a restorative practices behavior approach

  • An understanding of pluralistic practices is required 

  • Biblical/siddur Hebrew proficiency is required 

  • Experience and comfort with educational technology 

  • Experience and comfort with project based learning preferred 

Education/Certification: BA required, MA degree preferred 

Experience: At least three years experience as a classroom teacher preferred  

Salary Range: $50K to $68K annually, commensurate with education and experience.
