Grades Classroom Assistant (2026-2027)

August 1, 2026 - June 1, 2027

The Denver Waldorf School (DWS) seeks a  qualified candidate to join our faculty as a Grades Classroom Assistant beginning with the 2026–2027 school year. 

This is a full-time position that supports the Grades (1–8) programs. The ideal candidate has a genuine love of working with children ages 5 to 14 years old, an appreciation for Waldorf education, and a desire to contribute to a warm, nurturing, and collaborative school environment.

This position works closely with lead teachers and support staff to foster a joyful, organized, and developmentally appropriate learning environment while supporting students academically, socially, and emotionally throughout the school day. 

Essential Functions

The essential responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist teachers with classroom management, organization, and daily classroom activities.
  • Support students individually and in small groups with academic, social, and organizational skills.
  • Assist students during classwork by providing guidance, helping maintain focus, and supporting quality work completion.
  • Support student access to lessons through direct instruction, task breakdown, material preparation, and modeling appropriate behaviors.
  • Assist with transitions between activities and provide additional support to students who require more direct instruction.
  • Build trusting relationships with students and support healthy peer interactions, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation.
  • Observe students closely to identify appropriate interventions and communicate observations to teachers and support staff.
  • Assist with grading, classroom organization, and other clerical tasks as needed.
  • Support student participation in intervention sessions, including reading, math, and other support services.
  • Help administer student medications following delegation requirements.
  • Work toward the ability to independently supervise the classroom during transitions and substitute situations.
  • Attend weekly faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and in-service trainings.
  • Maintain clear, professional, and consistent communication with families and colleagues.
  • Contribute positively to the life of the school community.
Requirements
  • Genuine enthusiasm for working with children ages 5 to 14 years old.
  • Interest in and appreciation for Waldorf education preferred.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Working Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Wednesday and Friday; 8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays.
