Telluride Mountain School - Telluride, a unique independent school nestled in the San Juan Mountains serving students Pre-School through 8th grade, is seeking a full-time Montessori Assistant Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The Montessori Assistant Teacher will guide and inspire students in pre-school through kindergarten in developing their academic, social, and emotional growth. A strong and professional Montessori assistant teacher is crucial to the success of each student. Additionally, they are integral in building relationships and community, and in creating a safe and inclusive environment where students feel known, supported, and respected. The Assistant assists the teacher in preparing and maintaining the environment in which the Montessori approach to education is implemented.

Teaching Duties:

Assist Lead Teacher in preparing and maintaining a joyful, learning environment.

Support the Montessori team in guiding and redirecting children when needed
-
Lead Aftercare Program
-
Maintain order and cleanliness of classroom environment
-
Assist in peer-relationship development and conflict resolution
-
Attend required training programs
-
Prepare curriculum materials, as directed
-
Work with individuals and groups of children, as directed
-
Supervise the classroom at the direction of the teacher or when s/he is out of the room
-
Share responsibility for the safety and well-being of children at all times

Uphold the mission and model the values of the School

Assist children who need help with toileting or changing clothes

Supervise safe play outdoors
-
Supervise children in emergency evacuations and drills

Maintain positive, open communication with parents

Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
-
Strong communication skills and commitment to teamwork
-
Commitment to ongoing professional growth and learning, dynamic and innovative teaching, and the growth and development of others on the team

Montessori classroom experience preferred

An undergraduate degree or graduate degree in related fields of Education is preferred

Strong skiing and/or other outdoor skills preferred
-
Willingness to acquire and maintain WFA/CPR/AED certifications
Compensation: This is currently a full-time position. Salary in the $45k-50k range based on experience.
