The Denver Waldorf School (DWS) seeks a qualified candidate to join our faculty as a part-time 7-12 Grade Physical Education / Movement Teacher (20 hours per week) to begin in the 2026-27 school year. This position goes beyond traditional physical education. In Waldorf education, movement supports students’ physical coordination, spatial awareness, teamwork, and confidence through structured activities, cooperative games, and skill-based movement.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with adolescents and can bring energy, clarity, and enthusiasm to an active learning environment.

Essential Functions

The essential responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Plan and lead developmentally appropriate movement and physical education classes for middle and high school students. 
  • Design lessons that include warm-ups, skill development, cooperative games, and team-based activities. 
  • Teach a variety of activities such as cooperative games, team sports, Spaceball, and introductory circus or movement skills. 
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment that supports teamwork and student confidence. 
  • Provide clear instruction and maintain strong group management in an active classroom setting. 
  • Observe student development and provide written student reports during the school year. 
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff regarding scheduling, shared spaces, equipment, and student support. 
  • Support the overall movement program and contribute to a healthy, active school culture.

Education Requirements/Certification  

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • Experience in physical education, athletics, movement arts, youth leadership, or related fields. 
  • Waldorf training or experience preferred.
  • Experience with Spacial Dynamics or comparable training (or a willingness to train).
  • Strong classroom leadership and group management skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a collegial faculty environment.

Working Hours

The work schedule requires the employee to be at the school each day for the time necessary to accomplish responsibilities. This is a part-time, exempt position at 20 hours per week. The specific daily and weekly schedule will be created with The Education Director and will include time for planning, meetings, and committee work.
