Denver Jewish Day School announces the opening of a full-time Lower Division primary grades (K-1) teaching position.

Our pluralistic Jewish community day school prepares and inspires Jewish students through an extraordinary secular and Judaic education to live purposefully, act ethically and thrive in the world. Since its founding (with the Lower Division, then Herzl, in 1975, and the Upper Division, then RHMA, in 1979), Denver JDS has aimed to inspire Jewish youth to think critically about the world in which we live and prepare them for the role they will play in affecting it through a challenging curriculum, a pluralistic approach to Judaism and a warm and caring environment steeped in Jewish values. Denver Jewish Day School is the Rocky Mountain region’s only K-12 community Jewish day school, currently with approximately 65 faculty members and 325 students. 


Primary Purpose and Objectives: 

Denver Jewish Day School Lower Division seeks an innovative, creative, knowledgeable teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. This is a full-time position. Qualified candidates will have a minimum of three years of teaching experience and a valid teaching license. Master’s degree preferred but not required. The ideal candidate will possess outstanding teaching skills, have experience in independent schools, be familiar with best practice in all content areas, be skilled in early reading instruction, be comfortable employing project based learning and other student-centered approaches in the classroom and possess excellent communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues. We are looking for a candidate who has experience with a diverse population of learners, differentiated instruction, instructional technology, and future-ready teaching practices.  The candidate will be a positive school community member and will enjoy working collaboratively with a team and building positive relationships amongst all constituencies.


Qualifications: 

Education/Certification: Valid teaching license required, BA required, MA degree preferred 


Special Knowledge/Skills: 

  • Organizational, communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Knowledge of school curriculum, standards and best practice for grades K-5

  • Knowledge of best practice in early reading instruction - Orton-Gillingham training is a plus

  • Knowledge of future-ready/21st century skills and success in focusing on them in the classroom

  • Familiarity with best practices for student engagement and classroom management 

  • Experience and comfort with educational technology 

  • Experience and comfort with project based learning preferred 

 

Experience: At least three years of experience as a classroom teacher 


Salary and Benefits:

Salary based on education and experience, starting salary range $47k-$60K. This is a full-time position and is eligible for benefits. Denver Jewish Day School offers an excellent benefits package.

 

Description:

Secular Lower Division teachers (K-5) work in a team setting typically with another secular teacher and a Hebrew/Judaic studies teacher. Homeroom classrooms typically have 18-22 students, however, students are divided into small groups for much of the day’s instruction. Lower Division teachers typically instruct in all academic areas including literacy, math, social studies, and science.
