St. Elizabeth’s School seeks an enthusiastic and skilled MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCIAL STUDIES AND SOCIAL JUSTICE TEACHER for the 24–25 school year, with the possibility of a start date May 1, 2024. The ideal candidate is steeped in personal and professional commitment to equity in education and is versed in child development and culturally responsive pedagogy. The Middle School Social Studies and Social Justice Teacher teaches eight 60-minute periods of social studies (four for grades 6 and four for grade 7) and six 45–60 minute periods of social justice studies (one for each grade, 4-8) per week. The Middle School Social Studies and Social Justice Teacher also serves as a Middle School Advisor for a group of approximately 12-14 students.

Qualification Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree in a Social Studies-related field is preferred

  • Minimum 3–5 years' experience as a teacher 

  • Deep understanding of child development, commitment to and enjoyment of teaching students aged 9–14

  • Thorough knowledge of content areas

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed teaching practices

  • Experience with universal design for learning, culturally responsive pedagogy, standards-based assessment, grading, and reporting, and restorative practices (or willingness to train in these models)

  • Effective use of technology in teaching and learning (e.g., Promethean Board)

  • Skilled in navigating the Google Suite of applications (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Classroom, etc.)

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills and excellent organizational skills

  • Self-awareness

  • Commitment to the mission and values of St. Elizabeth’s School

Salary Range

$50,800-$65,750, depending on years of experience
