The High Mountain Institute is seeking an English Faculty Member, a full-time teaching opportunity at the High Mountain Institute. This position is based on HMI’s campus in Leadville, CO; on-campus housing is included in the compensation package. Reporting to the Director of Academics and Faculty, responsibilities include teaching English classes, leading extended wilderness expeditions, and various residential life duties.
The ideal job candidate has prior experience in classroom teaching, wilderness instruction, and participation in a residential life environment.
Primary Job Responsibilities:

Teach 3-4 sections of English each semester

Lead 4-5 student wilderness expeditions and serve in an emergency support capacity for semester expeditions

Mentor an English apprentice each semester

Participate in overnight residential life responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in English or a related field

Prior high school teaching experience, English preferred

A demonstrated commitment to principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion

Enthusiasm for working with teenagers in a residential setting

Current WFR or higher, or ability to obtain such certifications

Legal work authorization in the United States

Ability to pass a criminal background check

Position Pay & Benefits:

Annual salary: $32,000-$39,000 (assuming 0-4 years teaching experience); Total Compensation $41,000-$48,0000, inclusive of on-campus housing value or, when housing is unavailable, a housing stipend.

Housing at HMI: HMI is proud to offer recently-constructed on-campus housing to its employees. Living on campus is a condition of employment. Total Compensation is the combination of cash salary plus the value of on-campus housing. For example, a Total Compensation of $47,000 typically represents a cash salary of $38,000 and $9,000 of housing value. Actual figures vary by employee and living arrangement, with typical on-campus housing value of $9,000 for most employees.
