POSITION DESCRIPTION

St. Anne’s Episcopal School is pleased to announce an opening for a Middle School Science Long-term Substitute Teacher to cover a leave of absence for the 2024-2025 school year. 

The candidate should have a knowledge of physical, environmental sciences, and life science and be willing to teach across multiple grade levels. The successful candidate will have a passion for teaching middle school students, and an interest and curricular vision to enhance the program and expand upon its offerings to further grow and enrich the overall Science Department and STEM/STEAM program. The teacher should use a team-oriented approach and place the needs of the students first.

St. Anne’s middle school follows the teacher, coach, mentor model. The teacher can  also serve as an advisor/mentor for a group of 8-10 students if they have prior advising experience. The advisor is also responsible for delivering the school's character education program.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Foster an exciting, dynamic, hands-on, and creative learning environment wherein the teaching of skills, knowledge, and a passion for the “doing” of science is paramount.

  • Plan, evaluate, and revise curriculum, course content, course materials and methods of instruction.

  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of middle school science and pedagogy.

  • Actively engage students in the curriculum and concepts through varied and differentiated instruction.

  • Incorporate various forms of technology within the classroom and lessons.

  • Identify and/or develop resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds and learning styles. 

  • Engage actively with assessment practices to inform class-wide instruction and individual student growth in concert with learning specialists

  • Practice classroom management that centers the social-emotional needs of children and embodies a joyful classroom environment.

  • Incorporate lens of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion across the curriculum in both planning and delivery.

  • Be willing to work in an interdisciplinary, cross-curricular, and collaborative environment.

  • Communicate effectively with families about student progress through both informal touchpoints as well as formal opportunities (parent teacher conferences).

  • Participate in outdoor education and experiential trips.

  • Participate in meetings for student support, department, division, and all school events.

  • Perform other duties as assigned such as supervising lunch, recess, study hall, and support students with extra help as appropriate.


IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science field or education is required; A Master’s degree is preferred. 

  • Certification in science education grades K-12 is not required, but is given strong consideration. 

  • Minimum three years teaching experience.

  • Knowledge of Experiential and Project/ Problem based learning will be given strong consideration.

  • Candidates must have excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently

SALARY RANGE

$225/per day (8 week assignment)
