Primary Assistant/Associate Teacher

Montessori School of Evergreen (MSE) is a non-profit day school serving students Toddler – Eighth Grade. MSE is dedicated to its mission of inspiring a lifelong love of learning in each student through meaningful, dynamic, and innovative experiences. MSE is fully accredited by both the American Montessori Society and the Association of Colorado Independent Schools.

Montessori School of Evergreen is looking for both a full time Primary Assistant/Associate Teacher. The following outline is intended to be a list of basic responsibilities for the Primary Assistant/Associate position at MSE. Duties include but are not limited to the written contents of this document.

REPORTS TO: Dean of Education

SUPERVISES: N/A

Assistant Teachers maintain and contribute to an exceptional learning environment. Duties include preparing and maintaining the classroom environment, creating materials, giving individual and small group lessons as directed by the Lead Teacher, helping with classroom management, supervising the playground, checking student work, attending to the logistical aspects of the classroom, and aiding the Lead Teacher in evaluating student progress. The ideal candidate for the position would also be able to adapt to an online learning environment if needed. In addition, Assistant Teachers participate fully in the life of the school. This includes attending faculty meetings and collaborating with a team in a mission-driven environment.

Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree, experience working with children, and having upper or lower elementary Montessori certification or experience with the Montessori philosophy. An ideal candidate has a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and excellent communication and organizational skills. Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to be challenged and to grow professionally.

Associate Teachers are responsible for supporting a classroom and the overall student experience that embodies the MSE mission. The Associate Teacher plans and implements areas of academic and organizational aspects of the classroom. These responsibilities include planning curriculum, teaching a variety of subjects, developing and participating in classroom management plans, observing and assessing student progress, and working to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of the students. Associate Teachers support parent-teacher conferences and write aspects of the student reports. In addition, Associate Teachers participate fully in the life of the school. This includes attending faculty meetings, conferring with colleagues regarding curriculum and teaching strategies, and planning field studies and overnight trips.

Minimum qualifications include an AMS or AMI certification and an undergraduate degree. An ideal candidate has a strong work ethic and is a responsible leader who works well with others. Candidates would demonstrate willingness to be challenged and to grow professionally, the ability to collaborate, a positive attitude, and excellent communication and organizational skills.
