Salary:

Starting salary for first year faculty without teaching experience is $53,000. Salary will be higher for teachers with experience and/or additional qualifications.

Accountability: Reports to the Division Dean / Head of High School

Position Description: The Denver Academy T1 Teacher (first-year teacher at DA) is responsible for executing Denver Academy’s mission of inspiring and empowering diverse learners through student-centered, differentiated, and transformative education. This position will include teaching a homeroom class of Literature and an English class. This teacher will be supporting other teachers in the high school setting by substitute teaching, grading, lesson planning, and student support. This position requires participation in an Induction and Orientation summer program including meeting weekly with our Program team in a mentorship program. They will participate in observation and co-teaching opportunities, attend regular professional development workshops and seminars, reflect on their practice of teaching, and collaborate with professional learning communities.

A successful candidate for this position will enjoy working with 9th – 12th grade students, will be comfortable working with individual or small groups for student support, and be able to lead whole-class instruction, including providing coverage for absent teachers in a variety of disciplines. Additionally, the T1 Teacher will support teachers with a variety of tasks including grading, student support with assistive technology, monitoring student progress, and assisting with classroom management, transitions, and supervision to ensure a safe and supporting learning environment for all students.

Teaching:

  • Maintains a safe and respectful learning environment
  • Responsible for differentiating effective and purposeful lesson plans to meet the needs of diverse learning styles
  • Works in partnership with Deans, Heads and Program Team for effective delivery of the DA program and content
  • Stays current with the DA program

Management:

  • Effective communication with students, families, teachers, and deans
  • Conferencing as needed with parents during scheduled conference times
  • Maintain electronic attendance and gradebook system for teachers as needed
  • Supervision before school, during lunch, and after school
  • Responsible for supporting testing and various assessments

Leadership:

  • Models professionalism in the classroom and amongst the division
  • Positively represents the DA community
  • Models respect and responsibility

Additional Responsibilities (as appropriate):

  • School functions, such as: Admissions Open Houses, plays and sporting events; Back to School Night, New Parent Orientation
  • In-service attendance and teacher training
  • Additional job-related responsibilities as needed
