Middle and Upper School Math Teacher (8th/9th)

August 6, 2024 - June 3, 2025

Vail Mountain School is seeking a Middle and Upper School Math Teacher for the 24/25. Housing is available! Who You Are:

  • A “raise your hand” type of person. You’re interested in participating in school events like orientation trips, field trips, sitting at lunch tables, assisting with carpool, hut trips, and Ski Fridays as necessary. You are ready to participate fully in the life of the school.

  • Master in content and able to teach classes above and below the levels listed

  • Able to communicate in a timely and professional manner with students, parents, colleagues, and volunteers

  • Ready to attend related meetings and assist with afternoon/evening programs; some of which may occur outside of the school day

  • Actively promoting the mission of the school

  • Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university 

  • Experience teaching in an independent school awards bonus points!

What You Will Do:

  • Collaborate with teachers teaching math in lower, middle, and upper school, skillfully navigating the needs of all schools.

  • Work in the middle school with all faculty.

  • Ensures what is taught is developmentally appropriate for students, ensures student learning and growth, is mission appropriate, and relevant

  • Provide general supervision of students at all times in the building (including lunch and recess)

  • Set targets, goals or essential questions for every unit

  • Monitors and updates curriculum maps and maintain curriculum standards in collaboration with the math department

  • Supports students with diverse learning needs

  • Works with students during study halls and office hours

  • Demonstrates knowledge of students and how they learn, and implements new teaching models to match student needs

  • Participates in peer review through observation and coaching following the VMS professional growth plan 

  • Works with MS Director, Director of Student Support Services to support the policies and implementation of academic probation and restriction for students

  • Works to ensure that there is a fair amount of graded opportunities that exist for every class and that there is consistent communication for every class

  • Advocate for and ensure that inclusion and belonging permeate the school's programs and drives its culture.
