Outdoor Program Director

Colorado Rocky Mountain School (CRMS) is seeking an Outdoor Program Director to begin in July of 2026. CRMS is committed to providing each student with approaches to learning that will give them the best opportunity to succeed in the classroom and beyond. The Outdoor Program Director position is an administrative role overseeing and planning all aspects of the CRMS Outdoor Program, including Wilderness Orientation for new students, Trips, and Interim. In addition, the Outdoor Program Director works in the Active Program and as a Dorm Parent.

This position reports directly to the Director of Active Curriculum.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve on the Active Program Committee (APC)
  • Conduct trainings to assist in keeping Leaders up to date with industry standards and “Best Practices” within their discipline.
  • Coordinate Wilderness, Fall and Spring Trips, and Interims (in collaboration with Primary Leaders)
  • Manage all finances and balance the Outdoor Program budget.
  • Manage all public lands permitting 
  • Act as Basecamp Manager and manage equipment inventory, trip organization, and maintenance, as well as trip food packing.
  • Provide leadership and actively mentor new staff by working directly with them and conducting regular meetings.
  • Keep records and documentation of all trainings and participation. Encourage participation in and provide resources regarding Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for all staff members within their discipline. 
  • Instruct in the active program curriculum, including trips, mountain sports, arts, or service work.
  • Serve on a dorm duty team and a weekend team.
  • Take on other duties as needed
  • Execute all duties in a timely and professional manner

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience in Outdoor Leadership Setting and logistical trip management
  • Familiarity with BLM, USFS, and permitting practices
  • Risk management experience
  • Willing to expand professional learning as needed
  • Exceptional communication and organization skills.
  • Cultural competency required to promote inclusion and belonging.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of technology

Compensation Package: Salary and benefits are commensurate with other Colorado boarding schools. Housing included. Salary range: $30,000 - $50,000, plus benefits.
