Upper School Grade Level Dean 2024-2025

August 6, 2024 - June 6, 2025

Colorado Academy seeks candidates for the position of Grade Level Dean, starting July 1, 2024. This is a full-time, 11-month position that includes teaching two academic courses or handling equivalent co-curricular duties.

At CA, Grade Level Deans act as the primary administrative point person for all matters related to a student’s particular experience in that grade, and they ensure that their students successfully advance through the Upper School program. Areas of responsibility include articulating and executing a vision for a comprehensive grade-level experience, developing, implementing, and overseeing grade-specific extracurricular and community activities, and successfully guiding students through the academic program. The ideal candidate will feel comfortable working with students of all grade levels, but specifically grades 10-12, as the Grade 9 Level Dean position is already fixed.

If not a classroom teacher, and with respect to equivalent co-curricular duties, candidates with experience and certification in outdoor education, service, or diversity, equity, and inclusion work are encouraged to apply.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing an age-appropriate advisory curriculum with the three other grade-level deans
  • Facilitating communication between parents, faculty, and students
  • Working with college counseling as needed to support the grade
  • Helping students plan their academic schedule, including the handling of requests for schedule changes and other schedule-related queries
  • Working with the grade-level counselor to coordinate support services and academic accommodations
  • Coordinating and communicating disciplinary action as needed
  • Serving as a member of the Upper School administrative team, which includes the Counseling Office, three other Grade Level Deans, the Office of Community and Culture, and the Upper School Principal.
  • Sitting on committees as needed
  • Planning and executing any needed orientations or class meetings
  • Working with Parent Association representatives to plan three parent meetings per year

Requirements

Successful candidates should bring demonstrated experience and excellence working directly with students as individuals and in groups, both within and beyond the classroom. Their professional experience in schools should demonstrate increasing administrative responsibilities, such that serving as a Grade Level Dean would be the logical next step in their career or a logical continuation of their current work. Demonstrated intercultural competence, which we define as the ability to understand and bridge diverse perspectives, identities, and lived experiences, is a must.

Candidates are expected to carry out the mission of CA, "Creating Curious, Kind, Courageous, and Adventurous Learners and Leaders," to support the vision of the Upper School, and to contribute to the life of the school outside of the classroom.

This position will remain posted until filled. Applicants, please include a cover letter with your application submission.
