Salary:

Starting salary for a first-year counselor without experience is $53,000. Salary will be higher for counselors with experience and/or additional qualifications.

Benefits:

You may enroll in Denver Academy’s benefit program if you are classified as a full-time employee and have completed the eligibility waiting period of 30 days. Coverage will begin the first of the month following 30 days of employment. The benefits package includes medical/dental/vision insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, short/long term disability insurance, life insurance, holiday/vacation pay, and sick leave. Accountability: Reports to the Director of Counseling

Position Description: The Denver Academy Counselor is responsible for supporting the social and emotional health of our student community. The counselor works in partnership with teachers, parents, students, and school administrators to execute Denver Academy’s mission of inspiring and empowering diverse learners through student-centered, differentiated, and transformative education.

Ideal Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience working with elementary and middle school students.
  • 3+ years professional counseling experience including working with children and adolescents with unique learning profiles and or mental health needs.
  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or related field.
  • Experience facilitating social/emotional or wellness education groups for students and parents.
  • Current knowledge of research and best practices in promoting student wellness.
  • Licensure in counseling, psychology, educational psychology, social work, or another related field.

Responsibilities:

  • Counsel students individually, in small groups and in the classroom setting to encourage and support student achievement and wellness.
  • Partner with school personnel to assist students struggling with personal, social, and behavioral challenges.
  • Maintain records, confidentiality, and ethical behavior consistent with professional standards.
  • Follow protocols and work in partnership with school personnel to provide safety assessments and crisis interventions.
  • Attend meetings required of school faculty and staff.
  • Maintain relationships with community resources and provide appropriate referrals to families when needed.
  • Triage with outside professionals to optimize continuity of care.
  • Advise teachers and other school personnel on matters related to mental health and therapeutic interventions relevant to school settings.
  • Assume other responsibilities as needed.
