Job Description:
St. Mary’s Academy seeks an experienced high school chemistry teacher. This is a full-time, 10-month, exempt position reporting to the high school principal and beginning in August 2026.
The position is responsible for teaching three 90-minute block classes per semester, serving as a grade-level advisor and club sponsor, and attending school activities.
At SMA, teachers contribute far beyond the classroom. In addition to strong academic instruction, faculty support students’ emotional, social, and spiritual development and participate fully in the life of the school. SMA faculty are collaborative, innovative, and supportive of one another.
Major Duties and Responsibilities

Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning

Develop unit plans and lesson plans

Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities

Select and use a variety of instructional materials, resources, and methods to meet diverse student needs
-
Use appropriate lab equipment, instructional materials, and technology to support student learning
-
Assess student learning through classwork, homework, tests, labs, and other assignments; provide timely feedback; monitor individual progress; and maintain accurate records and reports on student performance

Provide student support, academic guidance, and encouragement consistent with the school’s pastoral mission
-
Participate in co-curricular and extracurricular activities, including clubs, community service, social events, sporting events, and overnight trips

Attend department, school, and parent meetings
-
Communicate regularly with students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs
-
Remain current in chemistry content, pedagogy, and instructional technology, and incorporate relevant updates into teaching practice

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related field
-
Master’s degree or teaching certification strongly preferred

Three or more years of teaching experience, including the ability to teach AP Chemistry

Familiarity with lab safety, chemical labeling and storing

Ability to connect and communicate effectively with students
-
Demonstrated use of classroom technology

Willingness to build and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues and parents

Salary/Benefits
The salary range for this full-time, exempt position is $54,000 to $68,000. St. Mary’s Academy provides excellent benefits, including medical, dental, and life insurance, retirement, paid time off, tuition remission, and opportunities for professional development.
