Job Description: Upper School Spanish Teacher 

Telluride Mountain School - Telluride, a truly unique independent school nestled in the San Juan mountains serving students Pre-K through 12th, is seeking a Full Time Upper School Spanish Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. At Telluride Mountain School, we understand that success isn’t only measured by grades in the classroom. The Upper School Spanish Teacher will lead and inspire students in grades 7th-12th on developing a solid proficiency in Spanish, deepen their understanding of the culture, and give them an opportunity to use their language skills in other aspects of their academic journey.

Teaching Duties: 


  • Develop Spanish curriculum and maintain Spanish resources, curriculum guides, and curriculum maps

  • Teach 4-5 sections of Spanish for middle and upper school students in grades 7-12

  • Develop Spanish language skills through reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension

  • Foster student’s interest and enthusiasm for Spanish-speaking countries and their cultures and history through activities such as immersion learning, projects and cross-curricular programming

  • Participate in the Experiential and Outdoor Education Programs, including but not limited to Fall and Spring Trips

  • Opportunities to lead or participate in Winter Sports programming

  • Maintain consistent student records on Blackbaud including gradebook, trimester grades, skill sets, and trimester comments as required by TMS

  • Review student support plans and implement accommodations recommended by the student support team

Qualification Requirements:

  • Classroom teaching experience preferred

  • An undergraduate degree or graduate degree in Spanish or related fields of Education is preferred

  • Fluency in Spanish (Native Speaker Preferred)

  • Experience living, studying, or traveling in Spanish speaking countries is preferred

  • Experience or familiarity with the International Baccalaureate program preferred

  • Experience leading outdoor, international or other experiential education trips preferred

  • Strong skiing and/or other outdoor skills preferred

  • Communication skills and commitment to teamwork are expected

  • We expect a commitment to ongoing professional growth and learning, dynamic and  innovative teaching, and the growth and development of others on the team

  • Willingness to acquire and maintain WFA/CPR/AED certifications

Compensation: This is an exempt, full time position. Salary in the $50K-65K range based on experience.
