Job Description:

St. Mary’s Academy is seeking an engaging, joyful, and dynamic music educator to lead our Elementary General Music program. This full-time, 10-month exempt position reports to the Division Principal and begins in August 2026.

At St. Mary’s Academy, music is more than a subject—it is a vibrant and essential part of our Lower School community. We are looking for a teacher who delights in helping children discover their musical voices, nurturing curiosity, confidence, and creativity while preparing students to actively participate in our Lower School music programs and performances.

The ideal candidate designs purposeful, developmentally appropriate instruction that inspires students to become musically literate and globally mindful learners. Our music educators thoughtfully incorporate the Colorado Music Standards—expression, creativity, comprehension, and evaluation—while fostering joyful participation and a deep appreciation for music in its many forms.

Successful candidates will demonstrate how they cultivate a lifelong love of music while teaching foundational skills in rhythm, notation, harmony, style, and interpretation. Through singing, movement, instruments, listening, and performance, the Elementary Music Teacher builds both skill and enthusiasm, ensuring students are confident and prepared to contribute meaningfully to the school’s vibrant musical life. We seek an educator who believes that every child is musical and who creates an inclusive classroom environment where students feel safe to explore, create, perform, and grow.

Successful candidates will model the Loretto Values of Faith, Community, Justice, and Respect in their classroom, and encourage our students to use music as a tool for communicating and expressing these values.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

?      Teach general music to Preschool - 4th grade students;

?      Create a positive classroom culture by incorporating a student-centered and inclusive pedagogy utilizing effective classroom management;

?      Be willing to collaborate with colleagues to develop cross-curricular learning experiences, and with performing arts staff in developing co-curricular or extra-curricular performances;

?      Prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that will facilitate active learning within all levels of experience and age groups;

?      Teach music theory and history as developmentally appropriate for each age group;

?      Motivate pupils and encourage the progress of each individual student through written evaluation as well as daily authentic assessments;

?      Maintain care for school-owned facilities, music, musical instruments, and equipment.

?      Perform other supervisory duties as required of all Lower School teachers, such as recess, lunch, or morning/afternoon pick-up and/or drop-off; and,

?      Communicate effectively with St. Mary’s Academy staff, students, and parents.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

?      Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Music Education or comparable experience in music and education

 

Knowledge or skills in some or all of the following:

?      Music Together, First Steps in Music, Dalcroze, Orff, Suzuki, Kodaly or another appropriate elementary school-aged music curriculum

?      Proficiency in piano, guitar, and/or ukulele accompaniment skills

?      Vocal pedagogy

?      Band methods

?      Orchestra methods

?      Hand Bell methods

?      Conducting

?      Recorder karate curriculum

?      Curricular emphasis on play, dance, and exploration

?      Music technology, A/V systems, current music software, Google Office software

 

Salary/Benefits:

The salary range for this full-time, exempt position is $54,000.00 - $68,000.00. St. Mary’s Academy provides excellent benefits, including medical, dental, and life insurance, retirement, paid time off, tuition remission, and opportunities for professional development.
