Position Summary
The Literacy Support Specialist provides literacy intervention using an Orton-Gillingham approach, collaborates with teachers and families, supports student accommodations, conducts literacy assessments, and helps maintain the grade school library. This position works closely with the Student Support Team to ensure students receive the support they need to thrive.
Essential Functions
The essential responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide one-on-one, small-group, and classroom-based literacy support for students in grades 1–8.
- Implement structured literacy interventions using the Orton-Gillingham approach.
- Assess student literacy skills and monitor progress.
- Collaborate with teachers, families, and outside providers to support student success.
- Support implementation of literacy-related accommodations and assistive technology.
- Prepare student progress reports and maintain accurate records.
- Participate in meetings related to student support and educational planning.
- Assist with management of the grade school library.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or a relevant combination of experience.
- Proficiency and certification in Orton-Gillingham required.
- Maintain current CPR/1st Aid, Medication Administration Certifications.
- Experience in working with faculty and administrative teams.
- Proficiency in project management and planning.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google applications.

Working Hours
The work schedule requires the Literacy Support Specialist to be on a part-time basis, up to 25 hours a week, during school hours. The specific daily and weekly schedule will be created with the Director of Student Support to accommodate where support is needed, required meetings, and the general requirements for running the Reading Program and related duties. Modifications to the schedule need to be approved by the Director of Student Support.
