Science and Math Teacher K-2

Steamboat Mountain School is seeking a dynamic and collaborative full-time K-2 Math & Science Teacher teacher for the 24-25 school year. This teacher will report directly to the K-8 Director and will be responsible for planning and teaching kindergarten, first grade, and second grade science and math classes.. Candidates will have a professional educational background, deep understanding of their subject matter and content knowledge, expertise in early literacy, as well as a passion for teaching and learning. The K-2 Math & Science Teacher will work closely with the Lower School teachers to ensure that the fundamental skills of teaching math and science are aligned with schoolwide approaches. Candidates should be familiar with differentiating the curriculum so that each child has the opportunity to do work that is appropriately challenging. A fundamental aspect of teaching in kindergarten and elementary at SMS is ensuring that there is a clear focus on social-emotional development. 

Specific job responsibilities include:

  • Prepare lessons and develop captivating student-centered curricula. 

  • Employ a variety of teaching methods and differentiated instruction to engage a range of learners.

  • Maintain accurate records of student growth and communicate progress with relevant colleagues and families.

  • Create a classroom culture that is engaging, student-centered, and effectively managed.

  • Attend faculty meetings and maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school as well as through self-selected professional growth activities.

  • Engage in regular supervisory duties including recess and lunch.

  • Attend the start of school meetings and end of year school meetings.

  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Assistant Head of School or campus leadership.

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred

  • 3-5 years of lower elementary experience

  • Elementary school expertise in reading instruction (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension)

  • A collaborative attitude and ability to work effectively with colleagues

  • Sense of humor, optimism, and possess a growth-mindset

  • Knowledge of social emotional learning and child development

Compensation and Benefits:

Steamboat Mountain School offers a rich and comprehensive benefits package.  

  • Salary range, $35,000-$55,000 depending on experience

  • Teaching Faculty are eligible to take the non-work days during traditional school holidays as listed in the school’s official calendar and separate from paid sick leave, but only as their professional responsibilities allow.
