The Watershed School is seeking a part-time Learning Specialist to join our Student Support Team (SST) for the 2026–2027 school year (August 10, 2026 – May 28, 2027). Working with students in grades 6–12, this role supports students with learning differences through individualized instruction, targeted skill-building, and close collaboration with the School Psychologist, educators, and families.
The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of learning differences and neurodiversity, strong knowledge of evidence-based instructional methods, and a genuine passion for meeting students where they are. Excellent communication skills, an empathetic and observational mindset, and comfort with educational technology are essential. This is a part-time, non-exempt position reporting to the School Psychologist.
Responsibilities

Collaborate with the SST to identify and support students who are struggling due to learning differences, with an emphasis on language-based learning disabilities

Provide individual and small group instruction in literacy and math, including decoding, fluency, comprehension, written expression, and executive function skills using evidence-based approaches

Teach and coach transferable learning strategies tailored to each student's needs and learning style

Support students, families, and educators in implementing educational technology tools that aid learning and work completion

Assist classroom educators in differentiating instruction and lesson planning to meet the needs of diverse learners

Evaluate student work and maintain ongoing communication and documentation related to learning support
Qualifications

Advanced degree in Education or Special Education preferred

Minimum two years of experience working with students with learning differences

Experience with multisensory instructional methods (e.g., Wilson Reading System or Orton-Gillingham) preferred

Strong ability to interpret diagnostic assessment results and translate findings into practice
